Missing Levelland Girl Desiree Yates Has Been Found

16 year old Desiree Yates, missing since January 9th, has been located in central Lubbock.

LUBBOCK, TX- Lubbock Police have located missing Levelland girl Desiree Yates. 

Levelland Chief of Police Toney Cowan said Yates was located at a Dollar General on 50th and Avenue Q around 11:00 Friday morning. 

Yates had been missing since January 9th when she ran away from her school bus around 3:20 p.m. at the Cactus Academic Center in Levelland.

Neither the school nor the children's hope home Yates lives at reported her missing right away. Both parties claim they thought the other had reported her missing. 

Wednesday we published a story on Yates, and Chief Cowan said they immediately started receiving calls on Yates whereabouts. 

Several people said they had seen Yates at a Walgreen's on 50th street in Lubbock. 

Cowan said Lubbock police were able to locate the girl this morning after she called her mother from the Dollar General. 

Cowan said Yates appears to be fine but will be taken to UMC for a checkup before she is returned to CPS custody.
