WHEN:           5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 19)

 

WHERE:         Allen Theatre in Texas Tech’s Student Union Building (SUB)

 

EVENT:          As part of a free public lecture series, organizers at Texas Tech University’s Free Market Institute will have conservative newspaper columnist Walter E. Williams deliver the keynote speech, The Role of Government in a Free Society.

 

Williams writes a weekly nationally syndicated newspaper column that appears every Monday in the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal and about 140 newspapers nationwide. He is the author of more than 150 publications for scholarly journals and 10 books.

 

From 4:45 to 5:15 p.m., the public also can attend a book-signing event of his most recent books; “Race and Discrimination: How Much Can Be Blamed on Discrimination,” “Up from the Projects: An Autobiography,” and “Liberty Versus the Tyranny of Socialism: Controversial Essays.” This will be held in the courtyard of the SUB.

 

The event is free and open to the public. Park and Pay spaces are available in the R-11 Band Lot on the south side of the SUB, the R-3 lot on the west side of the Band Lot and the fourth floor of the Flint Avenue Parking Garage, located at 18th Street and Flint Avenue.
