LUBBOCK, TX -- Court records provide new details leading up to the arrest of Monterey boys cross country coach William "Bill" Gallagher, 52, of Lubbock.
Official records say on November 14 a 17-year-old girl complained about Gallagher. The principal called Lubbock ISD Police who in turn requested assistance from Lubbock Police.
The Principal Les “Jack” Purkeypile is quoted as saying the girl “… had allegedly been recorded with her clothes off…”
A report says the victim “made the allegation that [Gallagher] video taped her while he performed a deep tissue massage on her back in a locker room for student athletes.”
Gallagher provided police with a written statement, and officers escorted him to his home where they confiscated computer equipment and his cell phone.
Gallagher wrote “that after he had finished the massage he viewed the video…” An LPD police report says the video was made “with intent to arouse and gratify … sexual desire.”
Gallagher resigned after talking to police and he was escorted back to the Monterey parking lot to pick up his vehicle and other personal property.
Gallagher was arrested one week later and has posted bond to get out of jail. The official charge is Improper Photography or Visual Recording, which is a state jail felony punishable by a maximum two years behind bars.
On Monday, LISD Superintendent Berhl Robertson released the following statement:
"Last week, it was reported that Mr. Bill Gallagher had taken a video of a student in a dressing room without the student's knowledge or permission. LISD Police investigated the matter and Mr. Gallagher was arrested and charged with 'improper videotaping or photography.' Lubbock ISD has taken this allegation seriously and the case is now in the hands of the judicial system. Mr. Gallagher is no longer employed by LISD."
