LUBBOCK, TX -- The Texas Department of Public Safety will open their new location, Monday, and begin using a new system that is expected to practically eliminate your waiting time at the DMV.
Cpl. John Gonzalez with DPS said the state paid for the $24 million project at 1404 Lubbock Business Park Blvd., which includes two buildings, an administrative office and the driver’s license center.
“We had already outgrown it,” Gonzalez said about their old location at 1302 Mac Davis Lane. “The building was too small for us to house more personnel and the equipment that we had there.”
The 105,000 square foot administrative building will include a physical fitness center, emergency operations center and have enough room to house their two story crime lab.
“We’ll be able to do more forensics work in this building,” said Gonzalez.
The driver’s license office is complete with kiosks that will allow you to take a number, leave the building, and return when you receive a phone call.
“The driver’s license office will be able to accommodate all the clientele coming into the office without a lot of wait time,” Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez said you will also be able to secure a spot in line through their website.
Just visit www.dps.texas.gov, go to the driver’s license tab, search location, find Lubbock and click the tab ‘get in line.’
The 1302 Mac Davis Lane location will be closed Friday.
The 1404 Lubbock Business Park Blvd. location will open at 8 am, Monday.
