It is all part of the Walk with Pride campaign where the Lubbock Association of Realtors raises money to send underprivileged kids back to school with some fancy footwear.
The association partners with the South Plains Food Bank.
Wednesday they shut down Payless Shoe Source to come in and personally help kids find the perfect pair of shoes to get them through the school year.
LAR President elect Nancy Rawls said they spend all year fundraising and in 2012 they were able to distribute almost 700 pairs of shoes.
“We are so excited,” Rawls said. “Our association does this every year, the Lubbock Association of Realtors. This is a budgeted item for us. It is great because we do this for the kids this is the annual Walk With Pride. Last year we put shoes on 700 kids, this year we hope to top that and you can see the event because we put shoes on kids that are in need.”
“With P.E. they actually participate without having any issues of getting injuries for not having the proper shoes,” mom Cheyenne Noble said. “It has helped my family and my son personally because we struggle financially. I am a single mother and I am so grateful to everyone for this program.”
The folks at the South Plains Food Bank are the ones who actually find the families in need.
They send them over to Payless with a voucher for not only a new pair of shoes but some new socks too.
