NFL Player From Lubbock Died in Crash

A former NFL player and Estacado High School player was killed in a car crash Monday in Oakland, California.
LUBBOCK, TX – A former NFL player and Estacado High School player was killed in a car crash Monday in Oakland, California.

Thomas Howard, 30, was born and raised in Lubbock. He played for UTEP at the college level and then was drafted in the second round by the Oakland Raiders. He would later play for the Falcons and Bengals.

Officials say Howard was driving his BMW at 100 miles per hour or more when the car crashed into the back of an 18-wheeler, crossed into oncoming traffic and hit another vehicle head on.

The other driver also died.
