The Fire Department said there was a fire under a stage in the school’s auditorium. A department spokesman said there was one report of a minor injury – possibly smoke inhalation – and the fire was put out within a few minutes.

Fire Marshal’s Office was called out to investigate the cause.

Students and staff were evacuated and were taking shelter from the cold at the nearby Byron Martin Center. Even 30 minutes after the fire, firefighters were still working to air out the building and remove smoke.

A band concert scheduled for Thursday evening at the school has been canceled according to a spokesperson for Lubbock ISD. A weekend theater production has been called off as well.  However, classes Friday are still scheduled to go as normal.
