Pint Sized Pooch from Lubbock Heading to Wiener Nationals Race

Reagan Riley and her dog, Annabelle, won the Lubbock qualifying race and are heading to San Diego for the Championship race sponsored by Wienerschnitzel

Reagan Riley and her dog Annabelle are heading to San Diego for the Wiener Nationals race. It's the second time Annabelle has made it to the finals but Riley said before the race in 2007 Annabelle had an accident and it didn't look like she would be able to race, or even run, again.

"And so she was paralyzed from the waist down and she actually recovered in time to go. She learned to walk again and I, we went and I thought she would come in last, but shes ended up coming in second to last. But it was fun. She still did great and it's such a wonderful event.

Annabelle has always had tons of energy but Riley said it's her focus that gets her to the finish line.

"She actually has a really good focus and attention...she just is really motivated by her toys and so she sees that I have her toy at the other end and she will come to me as fast as she can."

And as Annabelle has grown her taste in toys has changed.

"It was for years her Frisbee. She loves she Frisbee but now shes kind of switched to little stuffed animals and so we call them her babies...as long as you have her baby waiting for her on the other end she will get to you very quickly."

The winner gets 1,000 dollars, a spot on a float in the Balloon Parade, and is recognized on the field at the Holiday Bowl where Texas Tech is taking on Arizona State.

"Annabelle will have on her red and black. She'll be getting her guns up."

Win or lose Riley said she will be back again.

"I love my dog so so much. So win or lose it doesn't matter, just seeing that shes eleven years old but she still just loves to run and play and she loves to get to go on the airplane and so just the joy of the event involving dogs I just love it so much."

The Wiener Nationals Race is Monday December 30th and if Annabelle wins the race she and Reagan will be out on the field at half time that night at the Holiday Bowl.
