Postal regulators announced back in late December that postage rates wouldl be increasing on January 26.
LUBBOCK, TX -- Starting today we'll all be paying more for services from the U.S. Postal Service. The Postal Regulatory Commission approved a three cent price increase on first class mail back in December. First class stamp will now cost $0.49 each. The rate for bulk mail, periodicals and packaging services also increased by six percent. Regulars approved the rate hikes back on December 24th.
The new rates will last no longer than two years. Regulars rejected a request to make the new rates permanent. The Postal Service says it lost over $5 billion during the last fiscal year.
