LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech cross country program is set for the Big 12 Championship meet scheduled for Saturday at the Cottonwood Golf Course in Waco, Texas.
Teams from around the conference will begin competition at 10 a.m. with the men’s 8,000-meter race followed immediately by the women’s 6,000-meter race at 11 a.m.
Tech senior and defending NCAA Champion Kennedy Kithuka will look to defend his conference title and become the first athlete since 2005 to win back-to-back Big 12 Championships. Kithuka enters the meet unbeaten in his Texas Tech cross country career with 12 victories in 12 races dating back to his 2012 debut.
This season alone, Kithuka has been named the Big 12 Runner of the Week four times and the USTFCCCA National Men’s Athlete of the Week twice.
The Red Raiders are coming off a program-best finish at the 2012 Big 12 meet, and return each of their top-five runners from the squad that finished sixth overall. Meanwhile, the Lady Raiders return three of their top-five runners from the 2012 season and will look to improve on a 10th place finish from last season.
