Red Raiders Picked Second In Big 12 Coaches Poll

After placing two Red Raiders on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team Thursday, the Texas Tech soccer team was picked second in the Big 12 Preseason Poll as voted on by the league coaches Friday.

LUBBOCK, Texas – After placing two Red Raiders on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team Thursday, the Texas Tech soccer team was picked second in the Big 12 Preseason Poll as voted on by the league coaches Friday.

Tech garnered two first place votes as the Red Raiders earned their highest preseason selection in school history.

The Red Raiders are fresh off the best season in school history going 16-6-1 and making a run into the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2012. Tech returns eight starters including Preseason All-Big 12 selections Janine Beckie and Jaelene Hinkle.

Hinkle earned a unanimous selection as a preseason All-Big 12 defender yesterday, while Beckie was tabbed as an All-Big 12 forward. Beckie netted 14 goals in 2012 and was selected to the NSCAA All-America second team as a freshman.

Her 14 goals were third nationally among freshmen.

Texas Tech opens its 2013 season Aug. 23 at New Mexico with the home opener scheduled for Aug. 25 against Colorado State
