Safely Warming Your Home in Winter

The weather's getting colder, but as you try and warm up your home, make sure you're doing it safely.
(AMARILLO) - The weather's getting colder, but as you try and warm up your home, make sure you're doing it safely.  The U.S. Fire Administration says to check for cracks and clean pipes in wood stoves, keep space heaters away from fabric, and making sure your fireplaces stay clean.

"Try to avoid at all cost, you don't want to use your stove or oven to heat your home. That's not what it was designed for," Amarillo Fire Department Captain Jacob Oehlert said.

Yearly, fires cause injuries to more than 17,000 people and billions of dollars in damage nationwide.
