LUBBOCK, TX -- At its most recent meeting in October, the Texas Medical Board disciplined two Lubbock doctors.  A written statement said Piyush Mittal, M.D., agreed to take 16 hours of continuing education.  The TMB said Dr. Mittal, “failed to meet the standard of care” when transferring a patient from one hospital to another.

The TMB also said Turlapati R. Rao, M.D., agreed to voluntarily surrender his Texas medical license.  The TMB’s written statement said, “The Board found Dr. Rao surrendered his hospital privileges at two facilities while subject to peer review.” Dr. Rao specialized in colorectal surgery.

Public records from the Lubbock County Courthouse say in 2012 Dr. Rao was sued by a nurse.  She claimed that while working at a local hospital, Dr. Rao asked her if she was married, and then forced her into an elevator.  Her lawsuit claimed he physically assaulted her.  Dr. Rao settled out of court for $25,000.  There were no criminal charges against Dr. Rao listed in Lubbock County records.
