SUV Going High Speeds Swerves and Explodes into an East Lubbcok Apartment

Driver going southbound on MLK Drive swerves and hits the corner of an apartment.
Lubbock Fire Department tells us they received a call at 8 p.m. Wednesday night.

Police say an SUV going at high speeds was traveling southbound on MLK Blvd in East Lubbock.

Witnesses tell us the driver of  the car swerved to avoid hitting another car... and ran into the corner of an apartment on the corner of MLK Blvd and East Dartmouth.

Police say the car hit and exploded, catching the apartment on fire.

Six units of LFD were called and LPD and EMS were on the scene.

LFD says an adult male was taken out of the car with burn injuries and rushed to UMC. They tell us his condition is still unknown at this time.

LFD also tells us one adult and one child live in the home. We spoke with the owner of the home and she tells us they were not home when it happened... and feels fortunate that no one was hurt because the room that the driver hit, is her little girl's room.

This investigations in this case are ongoing.

Red Cross came to help the family find a place to stay.
