LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head coach Jon Murray announced Thursday the completion of the 2013 Red Raider and Lady Raider cross country schedule.
Texas Tech will compete in five meets including one home meet ahead of the NCAA postseason. The regular season slate includes the annual Texas Tech Red Raider Open scheduled for Sept. 13 in Lubbock.
"The 2013 competition schedule is one with a few new challenges to it," Murray said. "It is exciting to be going back to the NCAA pre-national meet again. It has been several years since we have done this meet and it will give the entire team a chance to preview the NCAA national championship course. All of the meets on the schedule will provide opportunities for our student-athletes to represent Texas Tech in tough competition while working on the development of their running. It is going to be an exciting year."
Texas Tech will open the season Aug. 30 in Ruidoso, N.M. when the Red Raiders and Lady Raiders compete in the Texas Tech/New Mexico State Dual meet.
The Red Raiders return 2012 NCAA Individual Cross Country Champion Kennedy Kithuka for his senior campaign. Kithuka went unbeaten during the 2012 season on his way to becoming the first male NCAA Cross Country Champion in school history.
Kithuka went on to win two Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships along with the NCAA Indoor 5,000-meter championship during the 2013 track and field season.
Last season, Kithuka helped the Red Raiders to their best finish at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships in program history finishing sixth with 154 points.
