LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech cross country program is set to continue its fall schedule as the Red Raiders and Lady Raiders travel to Stillwater, Okla. this weekend for the prestigious Cowboy Jamboree.
The meet, scheduled for Saturday morning, will feature 17 teams in each the men’s and women’s university divisions. Texas Tech will be making its first appearance at the Cowboy Jamboree since 2010.
“This is a good opportunity to compete in a very high-quality meet,” Texas Tech head coach Jon Murray said. “It’s a great opportunity for our athletes to compete against some great teams on a very nice course.”
The women’s 5,000-meter race is scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m. with the men’s 8,000-meter race following at 9:45 a.m. Tech enters the meet in the midst of a strong start to the 2013 season featuring impressive performances from both the men’s and women’s squads.
Senior Kennedy Kithuka has remained unbeaten in his Texas Tech career capturing two victories in two meets this season. He finished first overall at the Texas Tech Open (Sept. 13) by over a minute. Meanwhile, Lady Raider Sharlene Nickle finished first overall on the women’s side and has collected two top-five finishes this year.
“Both teams have improved from last year,” Murray said. “This is a good chance for them to learn how to compete at a higher level and against better competition.”
