NORMAN, Okla. – Texas Tech scored two unanswered goals in the second half Friday night as the Red Raiders outlasted Oklahoma 2-1 at the OU Soccer Complex in Norman.
With the victory, the Red Raiders move to 13-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in Big 12 play while extending their conference-leading unbeaten streak to 11-straight matches.
"It was a great battle tonight," Texas Tech head coach Tom Stone said. "It was an excellent effort for our team. Credit Oklahoma, they played well, but our resolve to get three points carried the day."
Tech senior Jessica Fuston netted the game-winner in the 81st minute of play off a well-placed cross by teammate Jaelene Hinkle. Hinkle beat an OU defender down the sideline before sending a cross into the box where Fuston took the feed above the six-yard box and fired it past Oklahoma goalkeeper Kasside Stade.
The goal gave the Red Raiders a 2-1 advantage with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation and proved to be all Tech needed to earn its second Big 12 road victory of the season.
The strike marked Fuston’s second goal in as many matches and the 26th of her decorated Texas Tech career. Meanwhile, it marked her 10th career game-winner.
Following a scoreless first half of play, the Sooners got on the board first as Oklahoma's Madison Kinzer connected on a header in front of the Texas Tech net off a corner kick. The corner, off the foot of Madison Silba, sailed into the box before Kinzer sent the header home from just in front of the Red Raider goal in the 62nd minute.
It didn't take long for the Red Raiders to counter. In less than a minute, sophomore Alli Murphy took a long feed across midfield from teammate Janine Beckie to set up a quick scoring opportunity. Murphy, from well outside the penalty box, took the feed and launched a long cross that sailed over the head of Oklahoma goalkeeper Kassidie Stade and into the back corner tying the match at 1-1.
The goal marked Murphy's fifth of the season and second in Big 12 play after scoring the game-winner in Tech's 2-0 shutout of TCU.
Texas Tech goalkeeper Victoria Esson made one more diving save on the night shortly after Fuston's game-winner. The senior made four saves on the night.
The Red Raiders now shift their focus to Sunday's match against Baylor in Waco. First kick is scheduled for 1 p.m. on FOX Sports Southwest.
