LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech women’s basketball team announced Monday the addition of freshman guard Marina Lizarazu to its 2013-14 roster.
Lizarazu began school at the beginning of the fall semester and is eligible to play this season.
She comes to West Texas by way of Madrid, Spain. Lizarazu grew up in Villareal and attended Fomento Fundacion High School while playing all four years at the varsity level.
Lizarazu was a member of the U18 Spanish National Team that won the gold medal at the 2013 Euro Championships. She also won a silver medal on the 2012 U17 Spanish National Team in the World Championships and gold medal at the 2011 Euro Championships with the U16 Spanish National Team.
The team also announced that forward Jackie Patterson would not return to the team this season but will finish out her degree at Texas Tech. Patterson played one season and averaged 4.5 points and 3.1 rebounds in 31 games in 2012-13.
Texas Tech opens official practice on Wednesday, Oct. 2 and will play its first exhibition game at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 4 against Angelo State.
