Vintage Township's Winter Wonderland Hosts Weekend Festivities

Friday December 20th and Saturday December 21st Vintage Township's Winter Wonderland will have live music, lights, and a chance to see Santa

Each year the residents of Vintage Township decorate their homes with lights for Christmas and Becky Koehler, Winter Wonderland Chairperson, said each year the decorations get more elaborate.

"We have some people out there that have a gingerbread house decorated and now this year it seems like there's a lot more decorations out there. I know I'm trying to one up some of my neighbors."

But the main event is the Winter Wonderland with a giant Christmas tree, nativity scenes, and Koehler, said there is also entertainment.

"We have live music at Founder's Park where the big tree is from School of Rock."

The School of Rock performs both Friday and Saturday night and there are Christmas activities Saturday night as well.

"On Saturday we have Santa at our town hall and it's five dollars per family. You get to have a picture with Santa, there's a Christmas photo booth with props, sugar cookies, reindeer food mix that you get to take home for the reindeer."

Koehler said there will also be food for sale.

"We have food trucks. So funnel cakes, corn dogs, hot chocolate, pizza, yummy stuff."

Koehler said the lights are up through December 30 and there is no charge to come out and enjoy them.

"It's the Christmas Spirit. We just like to invite the community in and let them see that we love Christmas, we love Lubbock, and we just want people to have a good time."

The School of Rock will perform from 6 pm to 8 pm Friday December 20th and will be joined by Ken Lege on December 21st from 4 to 9 pm.

Santa will be at the Vintage Township town hall Saturday December 21st. There is a five dollar charge for the Santa Activities.

Vintage Township is also selling Cookbooks with recipes from residents for 10 dollars with the proceeds going toward new playground equipment.
