Matt Stell

Matthew “Matt” Stell co-anchors the 6pm and 10pm newscasts on KLBK-TV in Lubbock, Texas.

Matt is no stranger to West Texas. Before arriving at KLBK, Matt was a reporter and weekend anchor at KLBK’s sister station, KAMC.

Matt has had the privilege of interviewing U.S. Senator John Cornyn, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta. He also covered President Donald Trump’s visit to West Texas in July 2020.

Storytelling is a true passion of Matt’s, and that’s what led to the creation of “Matt Stell Reports”, a monthly segment dedicated to in-depth interviews and the unforgettable personal stories of people in our community.

Matt graduated from the University of Houston where he studied Communication with an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism and minored in Political Science. While in college, Matt interned with the Texas House of Representatives and the Dallas County Magistrate’s Office.

Matt is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, the 100 Black Men of West Texas, and the National Speech and Debate Association. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Communities in Schools of the South Plains. When he’s not on the air, you’ll typically find Matt emceeing events around Lubbock and working as an In-Game Host during Texas Tech home football games at Jones AT&T Stadium. 

In his free time, Matt enjoys watching football, traveling, and volunteering in the community. He also has traveled to Central America and the Caribbean as an international missionary.

Matt is a native Texan who grew up in the Dallas area, but is proud to be serving the South Plains!
