Law enforcement respond to officer involved shooting in Seagraves

SEAGRAVES, Texas — On Monday, Seagraves Police and other law enforcement agencies responded to an officer involved shooting around 9th Street and Avenue J at about 7:30 p.m.

According to a UMC spokesperson, both the officer and another person are at the hospital. The officer is stable, but the other person is in serious condition. 

According to a statement from the Texas Department of Public Saftey, a Seagraves police officer started to pull over an individual for a traffic stop. After a short pursuit, the suspect fired at the officer.

During the gun fire, both the suspect and the officer were injured and transported to a nearby hospital, DPS said.

UMC said they closed their doors to manage crowds and protect other patients. 

Lubbock Police Department said they have an officer at UMC assisting Seagraves PD with photographs. Further details were not specified. 

According to a DPS statement, the Texas Rangers are investigating.

On 4-29-19 at approximately 7:30PM a Seagraves Police officer initiated a traffic stop in the vicinity of 9th street & Avenue J, in Seagraves, TX.  After a short pursuit the suspect fired at the officer.  During the exchange of gun fire both the suspect and the officer were injured, then transported to a nearby hospital.  Both the officer and the suspect are in stable condition.  The Texas Rangers are investigating and no further details are available at this time.

The Seagraves police officer was released from the hospital. The suspect remains in the hospital in stable condition. The Texas Rangers are still working on the investigation, we will update you as information is available for release. No further details are available at this time.
