It Can Take As Little As Five Minutes To Buy A Gun In Lubbock

To legally purchase a firearm in the state of Texas, you must be a U.S. citizen, at least eighteen years old, and pass a FBI background check.

In local stores like Sharp Shooters and Galaxy Pawn Shop, employees are trained to personally evaluate the individual looking to purchase a firearm for any “watch words” or alarming behavior.

“Sometimes we don’t receive a response from them and then we’re allowed by law to release [the firearm] to you at our discretion,” Galaxy Pawn Shop Owner Bill Roberts said. “There have been times when somebody has been approved and we just didn’t feel right about the situation and we deny them ourselves. And so that doesn’t mean just because you pay us you get one.”
“The individual associate has somewhat of a discretion to make, on site judgment calls given conversation with the individual given potentially purchasing the firearm if certain keywords are dropped,” Sharp Shooter Sales Associate Daniel Sickles said. “For example what is my maximum range of fire?”
