A former Spur ISD coach was arrested Thursday morning by Texas Rangers and charged with sexual assault of a child under the age of 17, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

Charles Fulmer, 43, was was arrested in Lubbock on a warrant out of Dickens County.

Spur ISD released a statement on April 11, after a staff member resigned on allegations of educator misconduct with a District student.

District officials had not yet responded to a request for further comment as of Thursday afternoon.

Fulmer was listed on a district webpage for 2015-2016 as a coach for multiple girls basketball teams within Spur ISD, as well as a coach for cross country and track for both boys and girls teams.

As of May 11, Fulmer’s state teacher certifications for general teaching and for physical education were both “valid” through November 2020.

Information from the case will be presented to the district attorney’s office for prosecution, DPS said.
