LUBBOCK, Texas - Kingdom Come Ministries donated hundreds of new uniforms for the Lubbock Dream Center to hand out on Tuesday and Thursday.
Lucille Vargas, grandmother of seven, is doing everything she can to get her grandchildren's uniforms for the upcoming school year.
“I'm their grandmother, but it helps my daughter, because she doesn't have the means to buy them their uniforms,” Vargas said.
That's where the Dream Center steps in, stocking up on uniforms for students in need.
“This year, we did something new. We opened up our facility here at the Dream Center to house those uniforms and give those away,” said Deedra Pinkert, who works at the Dream Center’s U-Apparel Clothing Closet.
All the clothes you'll find at the Dream Center will also pass every school's dress code.
“Kingdom Come Ministries actually checked with all of the schools and verified before they went and purchased these uniforms (to make sure) they're acceptable,” Pinkert said.
The Dream Center's clothing closet also opened just for children this week. Parents can stop in and get clothes, shoes, socks and jackets for kids.
Vargas' grandchildren are now ready to start school next week with their new uniforms. Seeing the smile on their faces shows these donations mean the world to them.
“It is a lot, but that helps the families like my daughter because she cannot afford to buy the uniforms or school supplies,” Vargas said.
