After a power washer was stolen out of a Lubbock backyard, a family said their feelings of security were impacted just as much as their finances.
The Garcia family has a screen printing business out of their garage to sell T-shirts. When they woke up Sunday morning, they realized the power washer was gone.
“We use it because we run a business here from our home. My husband’s a student at Texas Tech, and that affords him the ability to go to school and still be able to work from home,” victim Andrea Garcia said.
In the surveillance video, you can see two men approach their fence. This all happened near Avenue S and 55th Street.
“Two individuals came into our backyard, our gate was latched with the lock but it wasn’t clasped completely, and so when they determined they couldn’t get in, they went around and jumped over the fence,” Garcia said.
But they say even though they had other machines in the backyard, the power washer was the only thing that went missing.
“There’s plenty of other tools out there, there’s lawnmowers and weed eaters right next to it and so just to take just the power washer is kind of strange,” Matthew Garcia, the son of the victim, said.
Andrea Garcia said it was not a very expensive piece of equipment, but she wants to spread word in her neighborhood that this is occurring.
The power washer is still something that helps them make ends meet.
“There is of course a financial impact to your business when you lose a piece of equipment, but I think more than anything, it’s the sense of security that we’ve lost, and the fact that it’s impacted my children,” Garcia said.
