LUBBOCK, Texas — A local girl scout troop donated 681 cases of cookies to deployed troops in the Middle East on Friday.
It was the first time the local troop made a donation of this scale, and they have prepared for months.
“All of this was set aside by the people who paid for these cookies,” said Christie Baker, Product Sales Coordinator with Girl Scouts of America. “We asked those who bough cookies to donate some extra money for our deployed troops and to cover the cost of all these.”
Altogether more than 810 cookies were delivered to troops abroad.
Local ROTC air force members came out to help deliver the cookies on their C-130 plane, which came just for them.
“I’ve been on the other side of that donation, and it really does go a long way,” said Lieutenant Colonel Dan Ielakeredolu. “Food is emotional, and any kind of food can really help the morale of any troop.”
All 600 boxes of cookies have left for various location in the Middle East and will be delivered to different military branches stationed there.
