First Public Dog Parks Underway In Lubbock

KLBK News

The City of Lubbock broke ground on the first public dog park at the start of this year.

“People have been wanting a place to take their dogs out for a long time,” Bridget Faulkenberry, director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Lubbock, said.

Dog owners will be able to let their pets play at Mackenzie Park. The dog park that one is almost four acres, she said.

Another park will be located at Clapp Park off University Avenue. Faulkenberry said that dog park is about 1.5 acres.

Both parks will have both a small dog section and a large dog section.

“We’ve had a lot of issues with dogs off leash. So, if people want to bring their dogs to run wild, they can come to this park,” Faulkenberry said.

Both dog parks are expected to open mid-spring.
