If you are looking to remain active and fit as you get older, UMC Activities Center provides a fun and motivating environment for those 60 and older. They offer group exercise classes for any ability.
Julie Dominguez is the Director at the Activities Center and tells us, “We always say we’re not here to be body builders, we are just here to have fun and move.” With classes like Line Dancing, Tai Chi, Pilates, Yoga and more, fun is never in short supply. The UMC Activities Center is putting senior adults physical fitness needs first.
Opening their doors in 2001, Dominguez says they’ve helped thousands of people maintain or increase their fitness levels. She says, “they’re stronger, they feel better , if they go and have surgery we get a lot of people that come back and tell us they recovered faster.”
Tricia Anderson has been going to the activity center for eleven years and says the classes at the center have helped her in many ways. Anderson says she has seen, “and increase in balance, strength, agility, and it gets my muscles stretched. There’s just a lot of good physical activity classes that help in so many ways, that I could come to every class.”
Every instructor is certified in the classes they teach, and can help anyone if they need modifications, so if you have any type of limits, knee problems, shoulder problems, hip problems, hip problems or whatever.
And Director Dominguez says, “getting physically active as you get older can help you live a longer life.”
And over time their members start to feel more like family. Anderson telling us, “I love the leadership in this facility, and it’s just a nice warm place to come.”
There are different memberships you can do, and they are based on your age. You can also drop into any class for five dollars a day.
