The following is a news release from the AMW Agency:
Cardinal’s Sport Center recently has been sold to long-time general manager Brad Wyatt. The store name and location in both Lubbock and Plano will remain the same.
“I want to honor the Cardinal family for trusting me to carry on their name and business reputation,” said Wyatt, a Texas Tech graduate with 32 years’ experience in the retail and sporting goods industry. “We will continue to improve with great brands, service and a care factor for what our customers need and want. The only changes customers will see will be a few enhancements needed to evolve with the changing retail landscape.”
Cardinal’s Sport Center began serving the Lubbock and surrounding area in 1946. Although the original store was known as The Sport Center, the name was changed in 1969 after being purchased by Johnny Cardinal. Since that time, Cardinal’s Sport Center has been family-owned and -operated for three generations.
In 2011, Cardinal’s Sport Center opened its location at 6524 Slide Road as the showcase store of the Lubbock area, as well as opening a new location in Plano in 2009. As a local store, Cardinal’s prides itself in customer service, local youth and school sponsorships, and the ability to serve the surrounding community.
“I wanted this business to stay locally owned and operated,” Wyatt said. “A successful business is built around people and relationships, and the Cardinal family has fostered excellent relationships for generations.”
The school sales portion of the business merged on August 15th with several other sporting goods independent dealers, mainly in Texas, to create an even stronger presence in offerings to school districts around the state. Tony and John Cardinal will continue to work with the school and team sales division, which will continue to operate as it has been: locally, in the same building, and focused on great service to coaches and administrators.
