City of Slaton mourns loss of mayor and city commissioner

SLATON, Texas (NEWS RELEASE) – The following is a news release from the City of Slaton:

It is with great sadness that the City of Slaton announces the loss of two long time city leaders, Mayor D. W. Englund, and City Commissioner James “Buster” Tucker. Funeral Services and arrangements will both be held under the direction of Englunds Funeral Home.

The City of Slaton operations will continue under the direction of Mayor Pro-Tern Lynn Nowlin, and Commissioners Benny Lopez and Weldon “Squeaky” Self. 

The leadership of the City of Slaton, overseen by City Administrator Mike Lamberson does not foresee any changes to the daily operations of the city at this time. 

The two vacancies will be filled during the next uniform election date in November. 

All City offices will be closed Thursday at 2 pm for Mayor Englund’s Funeral and Friday at 2 pm for Commissioner Tucker’s Memorial Service.
