DPS warning: Zero visibility, multiple crashes in several areas

Local News

LUBBOCK, Texas — On Wednesday evening, the Texas Department of Public Safety issued a warning because of high winds and blowing dirt.

At about 8:00 pm, DPS provided an update, saying US 84 near Anton was reopened as was Interstate 27 north of Lubbock.

DPS said, “TXDOT will be escorting traffic with a pilot car until the wind dies down and visibility improves.”

The original warning from DPS said:

Due to high winds and blowing dust multiple areas are reduced to zero or near zero visibility. There are multiple crashes located on US 84 in Hockley County just east of Anton. US 84 is closed due to crashes on roadway. Troopers are on scene on US 84 and are en route to crashes on I-27.  Visibility is zero at these locations and traffic cannot safely proceed through these areas at this time. TXDOT is en route to both locations.
