Infant seriously hurt in Wednesday evening crash

LUBBOCK, Texas (PRESS RELEASE) - The following is a press release from Lubbock Police:

Lubbock Police Department officers are investigating a crash at Guava Avenue and East 19th Street that sent an infant to the hospital with serious injuries Wednesday evening.

On August 8th, at approximately 5 p.m., officers responded to reports of a two vehicle crash in the 1800 block of Guava Avenue.

Through the initial investigation, it appears a Ford pickup truck was stopped at the southbound stop sign on Guava Avenue at East 19th Street. A Chevrolet TrailBlazer traveling southbound on Guava Avenue rear ended the pickup truck.

The impact of the collision sent both vehicles across intersection. The TrailBlazer continued traveling off the roadway and came to a stop after striking a tree.

A three month old infant in the TrailBlazer was taken by ambulance to UMC with serious injuries. The other two occupants, a 19-year-old female and 15-year-old female, had minor injuries. It appears the infant was being held by the 15-year-old front right passenger at the time of the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

This crash remains under investigation by LPD Crash Investigators.
