Updated Story Link: Warrant Describes Children Nearby During Mall Shooting 

The following is a press release from the Lubbock Police Department: 

Lubbock Police Officers were called to the South Plains Mall at 5:57 p.m., on Sunday, December 31st, following reports of shots fired. Case Number: 17-44598.

On Monday, January 15th, after surveillance in the area of 9413 Boston Avenue, officers arrested 30-year-old Detrick Montgomery on two felony warrants, including Aggravated Assault and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.  

Officers also arrested 25-year-old Victoria York on charges of hindering apprehension.

Through investigation, officers were able to determine the incident at the South Plains Mall stemmed from a domestic disturbance that began in 2015. Case Number: 15-43778 (11/15/2015)

The altercation at the mall began inside the store Footaction and then spilled out into the mall, at which point Montgomery pulled out a gun and fired the weapon.

We want to reiterate that this was an isolated incident that stemmed from a domestic disturbance, and that there is no concern by the Lubbock Police Department about the level of safety at the South Plains Mall.

At this time, both Detrick Montgomery and Victoria York remain behind bars at the Lubbock County Detention Center.

An investigation is ongoing.
