LUBBOCK, Texas (PRESS RELEASE) (June 16, 2021) — Lubbock Christian University (LCU) is hosting Art Camp this summer for students who are in grades 2-12. Campers will learn from professional instructors using a wide range of media, including paints, clay and recyclable materials. Projects will include clay rattles, Chihuly sculptures and accordion dragons.
According to Ronelle Howell, who serves as the program coordinator for Visual Arts in the Communication/Fine Arts Department at LCU, “The art camp is a joint effort between the LCU Fine Arts Department and several LISD art teachers, who are all volunteering their time for the camp. We hope for it to be a fun and collaborative art experience for everyone involved.”
Class size is limited so that students will receive greater interaction with instructors and will be divided by age-groups:
· Grades 2-5
· Grades 6-12
· Tuesday 6/22
· Thursday 6/24
· Tuesday 6/28
· Thursday 7/1
Cost is $50 per day OR sign up for 3 and get the 4th class FREE. “Money raised through the camp will go to Friends of the Arts (FOTA)”, says Howell. FOTA is an organization at LCU that promotes and provides for the further development of the Fine Arts programs at LCU and also helps fund student scholarships.
Howell says that “they are all hopeful that the camp will lay a good foundation of art for those who attend, and that kids will want to come back year after year to learn more.”
