The following is a news release from the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office:
On Oct. 1 at approximately 9:46 a.m., the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for assistance from the Crosby County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a stolen vehicle, which they were trying to apprehend.
Both Lubbock County deputies and the Department of Public Safety pursued the vehicle. During the pursuit, the suspect drove into oncoming lanes of traffic on east bound U.S. Highway 62/82 and struck a Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office vehicle.
A GPS system in the vehicle allowed officers to back off and lower their speeds for public safety, while still maintaining a position on the vehicle. This also assisted deputies in apprehending the vehicle and suspect at approximately 11:30 a.m. in the Wolfforth area on westbound U.S. Highway 62/82 west.
The suspect is 22-year-old Johnny Gonzalez-Ramos (H/M, D.O.B. 9/15/96).
He is currently booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center charged with “Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle” with the possibility of additional charges pending.
There were no reported injuries during this incident.
