Lubbock Police said a man was arrested early Sunday morning for murder.  Police said Steven Sanders, 38, was charged after the shooting death of Kirvyn Alexander, 28, in the 1900 block of East Broadway.

The following is a written statement from Lubbock Police:

Steven Sanders, 38, is in the Lubbock County Detention Center charged with the murder of 28-year-old Kirvyn Alexander after an early morning shooting on Sunday at the Hitchen Post club located at 1902 East Broadway.

At approximately 3:40 a.m., the Lubbock Police Department received a call of shots fired inside the Hitchen Post. Multiple officers responded to the club and located a deceased male later identified as Kirvyn Alexander.

Due to the nature of the incident, investigators with the Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit were called to the scene to begin an immediate investigation into the fatal shooting. Through the initial investigation, it appears Alexander was an in altercation inside the club just prior to the shooting.

As the investigation continued, Sanders was identified as a suspect and was arrested for murder.

This case remains under investigation by the Metro Special Crimes Unit. Investigators are asking people who may have witnessed the altercation or shooting at the club to call Crime Line at 806-741-1000. Callers can remain anonymous.
