OSHA Investigating Deadly Incident at Lubbock Airport

Lubbock Police were called to the Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport to investigate the report of a dead body.  The situation was not being treated as a homicide.  

Police said officers were called about noon Tuesday to the tarmac.  A source said there was an accident at the FedEx operation in Lubbock.  

A spokesman for Occupational Safety and Health Administration said, “I can confirm OSHA has an open and ongoing investigation into this incident. No other information is available until the case is closed.“

An official statement from FedEx said, “We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues affected by the loss of our team member. We are cooperating fully with investigating authorities.“

Late in the day, the Federal Aviation Administration said, “We will investigate the accident to determine whether the maintenance was being performed in accordance with approved safety procedures and if [the] mechanic had received adequate training.”
