Plainview Independent School District released the following statement:

Dear Families and Stakeholders of the Plainview Independent School District,

Today, Thursday, September 27, 2018, the Plainview Police Department received an anonymous threat to an unspecified school during the early hours of the morning. Immediately upon the anonymous threat, Plainview ISD took preventative measures out of an abundance of caution to delay schools for two hours in order to prioritize the health and safety of the students and staff in our schools.

Plainview ISD Administration decided to delay schools for two hours to work with the Plainview Police Department in order to ensure the safety and security of our schools. Even though no threat was found at any of our schools, the Plainview Police Department will maintain a strong presence at our schools for the remainder of the school day, and additional security measures will be taken to monitor our schools.

Following a search of our campuses and several other safety measures, children and staff were allowed to return back to school starting at 10:00am with an actual return time of 10:30am. All absences will be excused for today and today’s absence will not count towards perfect attendance.

We apologize for the inconvenience and unnecessary anxiety that this situation puts on the students, staff and community in our school district, but please know that the safety and security of our staff and children are of upmost importance to Plainview ISD. We will continue to monitor today’s situation and continue to keep the safety and security of our students and staff as our highest priority.

We would like to thank the Plainview Police Department, Hale County Sherriff’s Office, Department of Public Safety, Homeland Security, the City of Plainview personnel and other community agencies for having such a quick response to the situation and for their tireless work ensuring the safety and well-being of our children, parents and staff.

Thank you for your continued trust and support.

Sincerely,

H.T. Sanchez, Superintendent

Plainview Independent School District
