Lubbock Police responded Monday afternoon to the report of shots fired in the 9000 block of Avenue P. A man was shot, and police found at least one vehicle with bullet holes.

A married couple and a 46-year-old male neighbor had an altercation shortly before 2:30 p.m., police said. 

Both parties shot at each other, according to LPD.

The 46-year-old was shot and taken to the hospital with serious injuries, police said. His injuries were described as non-life threatening.

Police said there appears to be an ongoing dispute between the neighbors. 

Police provided the following statement: 

Just before 2:30 p.m., the Lubbock Police Department received reports of shots fired in the 9000 block of Avenue P.

Officers arrived and were able to locate a 46-year-old male with injuries related to a gunshot. He was taken by ambulance to UMC with serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.

Multiple patrol officers and detectives with the LPD Persons Crimes Unit responded to the scene. Through the initial investigation, it appears there has been an ongoing dispute between two neighboring households. Today, an altercation broke out between the neighbors, and shots were fired by both parties. The 46-year-old male was the only person struck.

Detectives are still working to sort out the details of what occurred, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
