O’DONNELL, Texas — Two teenage girls died and one was seriously injured in a one-vehicle rollover at County Road 2053 just Northeast of O’Donnell at 7:45 p.m., according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
18-year-old Jadyn Taylor Boyd and another girl, 15 years old who were both from O’Donnell, were pronounced dead Wednesday, DPS said.
DPS said the third girl, also 15 years old and from O’Donnell, had “incapacitating injuries” and was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock.
A DPS crash report said a pickup truck was driven by one of the minors who drifted “left across the eastbound lane and into the south ditch.”
The driver then overcorrected right and then left again, causing the pickup truck to spin and skid on its side across FM 2053, then roll into the south ditch where it landed.
O’Donnell ISD issued a statement on social media on Wednesday night expressing sympathy for those in the crash by saying in part, “…We will once again need to support and pray for each other during this time.”
O’Donnell ISD Superintendent Dr. Cathy Palmer told EverythingLubbock.com that one student was enrolled at O’Donnell ISD and another at Klondike ISD.
The school said it would resume a regular school day Thursday, but not take attendance. Events and tests scheduled prior, were cancelled.
Counselors were available at 9:00 a.m. for students, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the school added.
Classes for Friday, December 16 were cancelled and classes would resume January 4, after Christmas break, the school said on social media at 11:21 a.m. Thursday.
