A Slaton police officer was injured in a dog attack Tuesday afternoon, and was taken to University Medical Center.

Chief Trevor Barnes said the attack happened around 12:45 p.m. in the 300 block of Texas Avenue when police responded to two pit bulls attacking other animals in the area.

The officer was bitten by one of the dogs.  Barnes says both pit bulls were shot on the scene.  There had been no problems with these dogs in the past.

The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
