AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — On Tuesday, twelve riders were rescued off the Mouse Trap at Wonderland Amusement Park after the ride stopped midway through the track.
According to officials, the riders were a mix of fourth and fifth-graders and some middle schoolers from area schools.
The Amarillo Fire Department said the safety mechanism held the train locked in place so firefighters and Wonderland staff could get the kids off the ride.
According to officials, they could not get to the last four kids in front due to location so they pushed the cars and let gravity take control and the kids rode it down.
Wonderland officials said winds and temperature made the ride lock up.
