October is Cyber Security Awareness Month. We checked in with our IT expert, Michael Strong from Blue Layer IT, to answer a few questions that you may have about your cyber security.
We all get notices from programs to update to the latest software. Is it important to install them right away?
Strong says you do want to install them before your device forces you to do it at the wrong time.
“I personally wait a few days to see if Apple or Microsoft send out a patch for that update,” Strong adds.
When it comes to two-factor identifications, Strong highly recommends you take the time to do it.
“If they get your first password, there’s a chance they won’t be able to identify the second factor,” he said. “It’s something you want to do to protect yourself.”
There have been many data breaches for many sites, like Facebook and Google. What can you do to keep your information safe?
“Maybe after a breach, it is a good time to change it. You don’t want to use the same password on different sites. That will help keep the bullseye off your back,” said Strong.
