WACO, Texas (April 30, 2019) – Lubbock Christian University pitcher Chandler Casey was named the Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week for games played April 22-28, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Casey started against regional foe West Texas A&M and dominated the Buffs on Tuesday night, pitching a complete-game shutout in a 6-0 win for the Chaps. The Lubbock native allowed only three hits and came just one short of his career-high with 11 strikeouts during his nine-inning outing. This is Casey’s fourth player of the week award this season.
This season, Casey has been a dominant force on the mound, whether in a relieving or starting role. He leads the team with 16 appearances, posting a 2.62 earned run average in 74.1 innings of work. He now has six complete games and is second in the Heartland Conference with 81 strikeouts. He has walked just 15 batters and opponents are hitting .218 against him this season.
Casey and the Chaps will play their final series of the regular season this weekend, taking on St. Mary’s in a three-game set at Hays Field. First pitch for the series is at 3 p.m. on Friday.
