Texas Tech will open the 2018 football season against Ole Miss in the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff at NRG Stadium in Houston, both schools as well as the Houston Texans announced Friday morning.

The neutral-site contest will mark Tech’s third trip to the city of Houston over a four-year span as the Red Raiders will travel to face the University of Houston this fall after taking part in the 2015 AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl. Tech and LSU sold out the Texas Bowl in 2015, setting a new bowl record with 71,307 fans in attendance.

“We’re excited to return to Houston and take part in the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff,” Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said. “The support of Red Raider Nation helped set a new Texas Bowl attendance record in our last trip to Houston, so we look forward to NRG Stadium being filled with scarlet and black once again to kick off the 2018 season.”

The Red Raiders have faced Ole Miss five times in school history with the last meeting taking place at the 2009 Cotton Bowl. Of the five previous meetings against Ole Miss, only two have come in the regular season as Tech swept a home-and-home series during the 2002-03 seasons. The two schools also met in the 1986 and 1998 Independence Bowls.

Ole Miss adds to the list of quality opponents lined up for the Red Raiders in future seasons as Tech has agreements to play a power-five conference member in seven of the next eight seasons, beginning with the conclusion of a home-and-home series versus Arizona State this season.

The Rebels will be the first Southeastern Conference foe to face the Red Raiders during the regular season since Tech and Arkansas completed a home-and-home series in 2015. Tech also has future agreements with Arizona (2019-20), N.C. State (2022, 2027) and Oregon (2023-24) for future years.

The Red Raiders are now less than 75 days from opening the 2017 season at home against Eastern Washington. Season tickets are still on sale and can be purchased by visiting the online portal at TexasTech.com or by contacting the Texas Tech Ticket Office at 806-742-TECH.

The list of ticket options for 2017 includes the “Red Raider Pass,” a mobile-only selection designed for recent Texas Tech graduates looking for an affordable and convenient ticket plan. The “Red Raider Pass” is on sale for $150 a seat and can be purchased by visiting www.TexasTech.com/RedRaiderPass from any Apple or Android device.

Mini-plan options are also available for just $120 a seat, allowing fans to choose one game between Oklahoma State (Sept. 30) or TCU (Nov. 18) and then two others from Eastern Washington (Sept. 2), Arizona State (Sept. 16), Iowa State (Oct. 21) or Kansas State (Nov. 4).
