December 6th, 2018 Evening Weather

LUBBOCK, Texas - Happy Thursday everyone! It has been an overcast day across the South Plains with highs dropping back into the low 40’s due to the arrival of our cold front. We will continue to see high temperatures drop into the mid-30’s on Friday and Saturday. Freezing low temperatures will also return to the forecast beginning tomorrow morning. This will play a big role in our precipitation types over the next few days. We are expecting a mix of rain, freezing rain and sleet overnight tonight and throughout the day on Friday. Then beginning late Friday night into Saturday the precipitation will transition into snow. Ice accumulations are estimated around half an inch with snow accumulations expected to reach up to six inches in certain locations. Make sure to keep your pets and potted plants indoors to ensure they stay safe and healthy and to keep your sprinkler systems turned off to prevent adding ice to the roadways. It is also recommended to stay off the roadways if possible during these hazardous conditions - especially Friday night into Saturday midday. Saturday evening we will see everything clear out with temperatures slowly warming up through the middle of next week.
